preakness 2013Preakness Stakes -The 139 running of the Preakness stakes is carded as race 12 this Saturday at Pimlico Racecourse, approximate scheduled post time is 6:18 PM. The field consists of 10 entrants who are vying for the 2nd Jewel of the Triple Crown with California Chrome trying to become the 1st Triple Crown winner since Affirmed in 1978. The weather forecast is projecting heavy rain all day Friday, but Saturday is slated to have mild temperatures, partly cloudy, and no precipitation on Preakness day. The massive amount of rain projected Friday still could leave a Muddy or Sloppy track on Saturday. Continue reading

Derby 2014

DerbyKentucky Derby-(Louisville, Kentucky) the 140th running of the Kentucky Derby is carded as race 11 this Saturday at Churchill Downs, approximate scheduled post time is 6:24PM. The field consists of 20 entrants who are vying to make history having their name forever etched in racing lore. The weather forecast is no precipitation Saturday with very mild temperatures, should be ideal track conditions.

The most prestigious race in North America is also the only race bettors get 20 wagering interests here in the states; most sporting events have their signature event at the end of the season, but NASCAR and horse racing use their season kick-off as their big event. As horse racing continues to die a slow death, even the casual fan still knows the greatest two minutes in sports. Truth be said, most 3 year olds have either just mathematically turned 3 as most are foaled between Feb-May (all horses birthdates are considered Jan 1st) and with the lighter racing schedules are immature or don’t have enough of a foundation to win the Derby. Last year’s Breeder’s Cup Classic 1-2 finishers are perfect case in point. Will Take Charge & Mucho Macho Man had a thrilling Classic finish and arguably are two of the best thoroughbreds in the handicap division in training; they also both failed in the Kentucky Derby. Arcadia, California- This year will be the 30th running of the Breeders Cup and will be contested for the 7th time at Santa Anita Park. The east coasters continue to grumble, but let’s be fair, where else can you get 80 and sunny weather in November? Florida might be an option but past venues of Churchill Downs, Belmont Park, & Monmouth Park have only offered cool temps and an unfriendly fan environment. This particular east coaster loves to hit California this time of year and as a gambler getting a fair playing field you can’t ask for anything more. (As a side note, the 2014 BC will also be held at Santa Anita)

Breeder’s Cup thoughts

Posted on by admin | 9,084 Comments

Arcadia, California- For the 6th time the Breeders Cup will be contested at Santa Anita. As a purist who has attended over half of these events including last 3 editions in the greater Los Angeles area, this is the best place for it. I love Churchill Downs, but the weather is always on the cool side for the fans. Let’s be real, the weather in the Midwest & Northeast in November is not ideal (case in point, look what “Frankenstorm” just did, it even knocked the DRF off-line), but in Southern California this time of year it is picture perfect.
