Del Mar, California- The Breeders Cup is back in California, but instead of being at the staple Santa Anita, we go south to the greater San Diego area, this year marks the 34th running of the Breeders Cup. Last year we had a clean cup, let’s hope for another fair playing field. Similar to Keeneland in 2015, this is the 1st time the Breeders Cup will be held at Del Mar Thoroughbred Club which most consider one the best places to watch equine animals perform. Continue reading
Preakness Stakes-The 142nd running of the Preakness stakes is carded as race 13 this Saturday at Pimlico Racecourse, approximate scheduled post time is 6:48 PM. The field consists of 10 entrants who are vying for the 2nd Jewel of the Triple Crown with Always Dreaming continuing his quest for a Triple Crown bid. The weather forecast is projecting seasonal mild temperatures with little to no precipitation leading up to and on Preakness day, should be ideal weather for fans and horses.
It’s time to get your “Preak on”, while I love the Derby and it is the greatest single betting race annually, the Preakness race and weekend is the most fun. Outside of the fights in the infield and the parking lot, it’s just a very entertaining weekend. Continue reading
Kentucky Derby-(Louisville, Kentucky) the 143rd running of the Kentucky Derby is carded as race 12 this Saturday at Churchill Downs, approximate scheduled post time is 6:34PM. The field consists of 20 entrants who are vying to make history having their name on a placard in the paddock at the storied Churchill Downs. The weather forecast shows rain with unseasonably low temps, certainly not ideal conditions. Additionally, the Louisville area has been pounded with rain leading up to the event so expect a soft surface.
Arcadia, California- The Breeders Cup is back at Santa Anita for the 9th time, this year marks the 33rd running of the Breeders Cup. After a very well run and successful Cup @ Keeneland last year, we return to the fun in the sun. Continue reading
Berkeley, California-When most people think of California Racing, the “A” circuit comes to mind which has always been Santa Anita, Del Mar, and the defunct Hollywood Park. The upper California “B” circuit of Golden Gate Fields and the defunct Bay Meadows is what one could argue is the minor leagues, rarely does the lone remaining major Northern Cali racetrack garnish the main stage, but that did happen this past Sunday June 12 as they had a Belmont hangover closing day card which featured a 1.45 million pick 6 carryover that was getting forced out. Preakness Stakes-The 141st running of the Preakness stakes is carded as race 13 this Saturday at Pimlico Racecourse, approximate scheduled post time is 6:45 PM. The field consists of 11 entrants who are vying for the 2nd Jewel of the Triple Crown with Nyquist trying to give an encore performance from American Pharoah’s Triple Crown achievement last year. The weather forecast is projecting unseasonably cool temperatures with a dry partly sunny Friday, but Saturday is calling for a 70% chance of steady rain which will affect the track condition, likely sloppy.
